Ordered Universe Academic Course 2017/18

Applications for the Ordered Universe ( Academic Course run from our OxNet Sunderland Hub at Southmoor Academy will open on the 22nd November 2017. The course will offer twenty young people in year 12 the opportunity to learn from leading thinkers who are contributing to this cross-disciplinary research project focusing on the conception of the universe according to the Bishops Grosseteste  (c.1170-1253).

Bringing together a unique configuration of natural scientists, social scientists and arts and humanities scholars, the project integrates the conceptual tools of modern science with the textual methods of the humanities to explore the richness of Grosseteste’s thought. Our translations, many for the first time, and which incorporate the groundbreaking concept of translation into mathematics, enable wider access to this wonderful mind, compelling us to make new assessments of his perceptive and inventive imagination.

Applications open on 22nd November and close 13th December 2017. Applicants will then be emailed a written task to be completed by 3rd January 2018. Selection is at Ordered Universe symposium in January. Successful students will be notified on 12th January 2018.
